HP TouchPad webOS Tablet Coming in June for $699?

Just the other day HP came forth to announce a whole slew of new devices running Palm’s webOS mobile platform including the Pre 3 and Veer. However, it also marked the date where we were officially introduced to the first ever consumer ready tablet powered by the platform dubbed the HP TouchPad. This webOS 3.0 powered device features a 9.7-inch display, dual-core Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 16 of 32GB of internal storage and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, among other things.

While the specs combined with the much loved webOS mobile platform make the TouchPad a noteworthy competitor we won’t be able to accurately gauge how it will do on the market until its price tag is made known. Luckily, our friends over at BGR have just been contacted by an anonymous tipster who let them know that the TouchPad will be out by the end of June for $699. There’s no telling if this is for the model with 3G connectivity built-in and we’ll see a cheaper WiFi-only edition on the market or what but $699 may be a bit too lofty especially considering the iPad starts at $499. However, it would beat out the Motorola XOOM in terms of price tags – if the previously leaked $799 price tag is to be believed, that is.

Would you buy an HP TouchPad for $699?
