Iphone 4 jailbreak finally tips up

TWO DAYS LATE, the Greenpois0n jailbreak for IOS 4.1 has finally tipped up to help fanbois break free of Steve Jobs' shackles.

The jailbreak had been penciled in to arrive on 10/10/10, however due to last minute issues was put back until this morning. At present the Chronic Dev Team has released a Windows-only tool to jailbreak IOS 4.1 devices, blaming "technical complications" for the lack of a Mac OS X version, though this should soon be remedied.

The Dev Team decided to change the bootrom exploit at the last minute, going with infamous hacker geohot's exploit rather than the previous SHAtter method. The decision to do so should preserve the exploit. Indeed because this is a bootrom exploit, it will take much more than a simple software upgrade to plug the hole.

Geohot is probably best known for having been the first person to successfully unlock the original Iphone over three years ago. It seems that even now the talented hacker and electronics engineer can still show Jobs' Mob up.

Greenpois0n only works with IOS 4.1 and supports the Iphone 4, Iphone 3GS, Ipod Touch 3rd and 4th generation and Ipads. Support for the second generation Apple TV and Ipod Touch are also expected to appear in the future.

Jailbreaking allows users to download applications to their devices that are not present on the App Store thanks to restrictions put in place by Apple. This typically results in far greater functionality and best of all, the opportunity to rub Steve Jobs' nose in the fact that his artificial restrictions on Apple's walled garden devices can be overcome. µ
